Scout memorial latest
I have been making good progress carving the first figure for the Scout Memorial which will be installed in the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire later this year. The figure is of a Scout leader, sitting up in his sleeping bag and he will be joined by 3 younger scouts, resting or sleeping in their sleeping theirs. The figure is life sized and began life as a 3 tonne block of Woodkirk sandstone, it will weigh around 1 tonne when it is complete. There are also a number of other smaller elements incorporated in the 7 stone circular monument including a ruck sack, climbing rope and a map and compass. The design for the memorial, is thought provoking and stimulating and will strike a nerve with anyone who has served in the scouts.
