“Mytilus Edilus”, the mussel sculpture that I carved in 2007 for Conwy Quayside in North Wales continues to make impromptu television cameos. Last week I spotted it on Terry and Masons Great Food Trip as the 2 peckish hosts made their way around the ancient Welsh town. Previously the 3 metre tall Kilkenny Limestone artwork has been spotted on the Antiques Road show, the Gadget Show and on Michael Portillo’s Great Railway Journeys. This popular sculpture took its inspiration from the local mussel farming industry which dates back hundreds if not thousands of years. The sculpture competes for attention with the medieval castle which looms over the town and the tidal estuary to form a stunning backdrop for the work.
