I have just installed 4 sculptures which are inspired by the unique plants that grow on Shoreham by sea beach in West Sussex.

The sculptures are inspired specifically by Vipers Burgloss, Starry Clover, the yellow horned poppy and Sea Kale, all of these hardy plants can be find growing through the shingle on Shoreham by sea beach which is also a nature reserve.

The sculptures are carved from Ancaster limestone (blue), Ancaster limestone (buff), Howley Park sandstone (green) and Coarsehill stone (red) and each stands at 1.2m in height.

The 4 carved stone artworks are located at the new Silverside Point development off Ham Road Shoreham by Sea in West Sussex. The project was a culmination of a year of research, design and community engagement which has eventually led to these 4 carved stone sculptures celebrating these unique, stubborn plants which thrive in the most challenging conditions. In the sculptures I wanted to reflect, not only their colour but also the diversity of their form. From the wobbly leaved Sea Kale to the striking vertical shapes of the vipers burgloss. Textures also vary fro the hand carved fin ish of the starry clover to the polished petals of the yellow horned poppy. These tactile, vibrant sculptures reflect the diverse nature of Shoreham beach and create a focal point for the new housing development as well as passing motorists and pedestrians.
