Time for a new sculpture

I have just begun work on a new project to create a huge human sundial. The giant sandstone clock will consist of a central stone on which a person will stand. On a sunny day their shadow will project in the direction of one of the 20 stones situated in a 15m diameter circle around [...]

Sculpture mussels in!

"Mytilus Edilus", the mussel sculpture that I carved in 2007 for Conwy Quayside in North Wales continues to make impromptu television cameos. Last week I spotted it on Terry and Masons Great Food Trip as the 2 peckish hosts made their way around the ancient Welsh town. Previously the 3 metre tall Kilkenny Limestone artwork [...]

Dedication of the Naval Service Memorial.

The Naval Service Memorial was dedicated yesterday by Prince Michael of Kent in front of around 2500 people at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Castle conquered !

The knight for Caerphilly castle was successfully installed yesterday. We managed to cross the 3 rickity wooden bridges into the castle with no alarms before the intricately carved sandstone sculpture was hoisted into position under the fighting tower. The piece will shortly be joined by a number of other artworks in and around the castle [...]

Caerphilly does it.

As you can see, he is almost finished. I have thoroughly enjoyed creating this sculpture of a "man at arms" for Caerphilly Castle. Just a few finishing touches here and there and he will soon be on his way. The sculpture will be one of a number of new artworks to occupy the impressive Welsh [...]

New sculptures in Llandudno woods

What a busy few days. Last week I travelled to Llandudno in North Wales where I worked in Marl Hall woods carving 11 way markers. I did cheat slightly, managing to carve 5 in the workshop before installing them in the woods. The others were carved into existing limestone rocks (of varying quality) and walls in the [...]

Sculpture installed at the Church of the Holy Nativity

On friday I travelled up to Newcastle upon Tyne with the circular Portland Limestone sculpture for the Church of the Holy Nativity in Westerhope. Following the monsoon that drenched us upon our arrival, the piece was hoisted into place and now forms the focal point of the newly relandscaped garden.
