I am delighted to say that work has finally begun on a new memorial to be sited at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The memorial commemorates anyone who has served in the Scouting Association, be it Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Venture Scouts. I have been working on this project for over 12 months so it is great to finally see some physical progress. The design will feature a circle of stones containing carved stone figures of Scouts resting in sleeping bags around a central fire, thus re creating a campfire environment so synonymous with scouting. The fire will be a kinetic sculpture designed and created by Angela Conner. It is hoped that visitors will sit with the carved stone figures around the fire. If all goes to plan, the sculpture will be installed and opened in June next year. For now though, the 8m diameter concrete foundation has been poured, the designs have been finalised and the stone has been ordered. Im looking forward to finally getting started on the carving work.
